Today marks the South Korean holiday Gaecheonjeol or, also known by its English name, National Foundation Day. October 3rd marks the day when the state of Gojoseon (ancient Korea) was founded by the legendary god-king Dangun Wanggeom in the year 2333 BC.
You can join in the celebration in your own home by burning sandalwood incense in honor of Dangun, and cooking chapchae, a popular noodle dish in Korea. You can find the recipe here.
